interiors > Media Room, Encino CA (20)
The Goal: To make this drab media room inviting, playful, and comfortable for the whole family.
The Challenge: I had to work with the carpet.

BEFORE
This is a sad room. Boring, drab, and a little depressing if I am being totally honest! Nothing about this space says "Come! Sit down, relax, and have fun!"

AFTER
This family loves color and Mid century design, so it was a no brainer for these elements to be used in the space.
A deep navy blue on the walls gives cozy color perfect for a media room.

A large sectional allows room for the entire family to enjoy movies in comfort!
This sofa, while not the height of modern design is extremely comfortable!! Which was the top priority when shopping. That's right! I don't always choose items just because they are pretty. The vote was unanimous ~ every member of the family found this sofa delicious!

AFTER
The custom ottoman adds a little more design appeal and balances out the heavy-ness of the sofa. This also allows everyone to prop their feet up. "Don't mind if I do!"

AFTER
Navy velvet pillows pull the color from the walls and add a richness to the sofa. Bright yellow chevron pillows add a playful pop.
A Kartell table allows for drinks and snacks while not blocking walk way.

The vintage replica movie posters not only added some color but also played into our Mid-century media room theme. It didn't hurt that they were super inexpensive!

A Saarinen tulip table and Eames chairs adds a space for games and other activities to take place. The white adds a crisp pop off of the rich wall color.

We wanted everything in this room to be accessible and fun for the entire family. This meant nothing could be "off limits" to the kiddos and their friends. Every accessory is either some sort of game or puzzle. Gorgeous design but totally meant to be played with.

Our big splurge for this roomw is the John Belushi photo. It makes me giggle everytime I look at it.
